Abstract In the “Whirl of Being.” The Birth Tragedy from Spirit Friedrich Hebbel. As a result dubious editorial policy, Nietzsche research has always dealt only with text later editions 1874/78 and 1886, in erroneous assumption that these largely resemble first printing. Surprisingly, 1872 edition is therefore virtually unknown. It does, however, show significant differences editions, especially since it exhibits strong influence Hebbel’s tragic worldview obscured favor Wagner. more nihilistic, poetic, powerful; Nietzsche’s revisions have rather diluted Tragedy’s argument given different direction.
